The Person-Centred Approach

The Person-Centred approach has been very influential in the world of counselling and therapy. This way of working emphasises that the client already has the answers to the problems.  The role of the therapist, in listening without judgment, is to help the person feel accepted and have their feelings understood.

Carl Rogers, who pioneered the approach, highlighted the importance of the quality of the client-therapist relationship and the therapist's attitude towards her or his client as the key to a successful outcome.
